I’ve just finished my promo campaign for the album. This lead to a total of 682 e-mails being sent to various media outlets, but mainly blogs.
Any results? Not so far – I sent links for downloading an electronic press kit, and I have no idea just how many downloads there were – the number of recorded downloads goes up and down and therefore cannot be trusted.
Apart from one offer of a gig, I have had no meaningful contact or response from anyone I sent an e-mail to. Googling the album name hasn’t revealed any significant activity.
So, that’s a disappointment, then? Not really – I was never expecting a huge level of response (I am a realist and have been around the block once or twice), but I feel the effort was worth it, as the album was definitely “entitled” to a decent push on my part.
One comforting thought – I c0uld have gone to the trouble of sending out actual press kits with physical copies of the album. On the working assumption that between printing the album, postage and packaging, it would’ve cost me, say, €5 per kit, then I’ve saved somewhere in the region of €3,500 by sitting down of an evening and sending out a batch of e-mails. Well, if I am going to be ignored, I might as well go about it in a cost-effective manner.
So, barring anything earth-shattering (or anything at all) happening to the album, this is more than likely going to be the final posting to this blog. It’s been great fun to do. Thanks to everyone who’s shown an interest.
I’m going to take a bit of a break now and do a few things that I’ve been putting off for a while – like wiring-up a patch bay for my studio.
In December, I’ll be launching a new blog to report the recording of a new project for 2011, entitled OPTIMISM 1 – EXPERIENCE 0. I’ll post a link to that blog in this blog nearer the day.
