Humourlesque/Entertaining The Masseuse – 050309

HUMOURLESQUE

  • realised last night that there are “key” issues between the guitar parts and the MIDI parts, and given that it was easier for me to edit the MIDI rather than re-record the guitar parts, I changed one or two notes in a string synth part. Things are working much better now, but in a strangely different way. The new strings melody is not one which I would’ve composed instinctively, but maybe that’s a good thing
  • the bass parts are not half-bad. Lots of editing required, of course, but that was always going to happen…:-)
  • I have this mad idea for stacks of vocals towards the end of the track. I am reliably informed that recording stacks of vocals is as much fun as you can have without wearing women’s lingerie…
  • …which begs the question – is there such a thing as men’s lingerie? Answers on a postcard, please…

ENTERTAINING THE MASSEUSE

  • I had no real set idea of how the track is going to sound (that never stopped me before), other than it’s got an slow “R&B” techno rhythm. So what a middle-aged, white, Irish guy can make out of that is a mystery to us all!
  • I spent the morning programming a load of synths and percussion in CE4 using HALion One, all in the same key, and developed a 7-minute groove, with “everything” in it. Even at this early stage, I can see bits that can be dropped in and out of the mix. I’m even starting to dream up potential lyrics.
  • But I really need a verse/chorus structure, so that’s what I’m going to be doing tomorrow, with the help of the man upstairs…
